Goo Hwi, the Heaven Ravager King (천잔왕 (天殘王) 구휘, Cheonjan-wang Guhwi; "Heaven Ravager King, Goo Hwi") is a senior member of the old murim, being a part of the Sage Forest, and the leader of the legendary band of assassins the Black Snake.

In the past he was feared as one of the Twelve Supreme Masters, being one of the Four Heavenly Kings of the chaotic murim.[1] He is also the older brother of Sohee, the father of the former Lady of the Baekma Valley, and the grandfather of Jin Garyeong, the current Lady.

Appearance[]

Goo Hwi is a giant of a man with a dense bulky musculature from years of intensive training, black hair tied back into a short spiky ponytail, his thick black trademark moustache over his lip and a distinguishing scar running down over his left eye. He has a tattoo of a black snake on his left shoulder, signifying his association with the Black Snake assassins.

Several decades after the war against the Asura Blood Sect, Goo Hwi has aged noticeably with his once black hair and moustache having now gone completely grey. He also gained a second distinguishing scar on the left side of his chin.

Personality[]

Goo Hwi is generally quite a cheerful entity and quite level-headed. He has a protective nature and will help those aligned with his family's organisation. While Goo Hwi will happily avoid conflict when possible, if the situation calls for it, he is more than happy to show serious force.

While he has mellowed out in his old age, Goo Hwi loved to fight in his younger days, showing no hesitation to challenge others in any situation regardless of what state he is in.[2][3] Even when facing powerful opponents, he is absolutely fearless and confident in his victory. He is also a very prideful man, often boasting about his fame and calling his martial arts the most powerful in the Middle Kingdom.[4] Although he is a murderer, Goo Hwi has some sense of honor. He does not lay his hand on weak and innocent people or attack merchants and common folk for private gain.[5][6] Goo Hwi also spares opponents that are not worth killing or people who turns their back on him and walk away but he has no exception for those that harbors hostility towards him.[7] Furthermore, Goo Hwi will hold a grudge against those who had wronged him as he was willing to track down Yongbi and Cruel Moon Archdemon to even the most remote places to exact his revenge on them.

History[]

Goo Hwi once led the Black Snake in a conflict against the Cheonwoong Faction where he slaughtered forty of their elite warriors and faced the Divine Lord of Destruction himself.[3] According to Goo Hwi, the war first started because the members of the faction killed some of his men.[8] At some point before being captured by Yongbi, Goo Hwi gained infamy for terrorising the entire Northern Murim.[9]

Plot[]

Yongbi the Invincible[]

Volume 1[]

Goo Hwi humiliatingly traveled through the murim bounded in chains, having been captured by Yongbi. On the way, all attempts to escape and rescue him were thwarted. While setting up for the night, Biryong fished a young boy out of the river and when Yongbi dried him off on a spit, Goo Hwi worried he might be a cannibal. In the morning, Goo Hwi wondered who the people hiding nearby was, knowing that his men would not leak such obvious murderous intent. After he watched Yongbi effortlessly deal with the two men, he attempted to warn the boy about Yongbi's deception but was punished for it. Later, they arrived at Hobuk Province and Goo Hwi was thrown in prison where he was accosted by other prisoners much to his chagrin.

Later that day, it was revealed that Goo Hwi managed to subdue the other prisoners. When his pressure points finally released, Goo Hwi freed himself from his shackles. On the way out of the castle, he encountered the boy from before. Goo Hwi grabbed the boy and questioned him on the whereabouts of Yongbi and Biryong. Threatened, the boy lied about their location and attempted to enlist his help to escape. At the gates, Goo Hwi hilariously attempted to leave by posing as a mother with a sick child but the guards easily saw through the disguise because of his bulky size. The guards then attacked him but Goo Hwi released his ki which smashed the gate and created a massive explosion that engulfed his attackers.

Soon after, Goo Hwi and the boy, Yul Mugi were found lying on the ground unconscious with two spears impaled in Goo Hwi's buttocks. Yul Mugi woke up and grabbed onto a spear for stability, unwittingly impaling Goo Hwi further. He was woken up by the pain and Yul Mugi pretended to be asleep to escape his wrath. After tending his wounds, Goo Hwi promised revenge on Yongbi and resumed his travels, mentioning that he would drop Yul Mugi off in the first village he comes across. As Goo Hwi left, two mysterious men secretly observed him, noting that they cannot retrieve Yul Mugi in his presence. Unable to face off against Goo Hwi with just the both of them, they sent a message to their prelate for assistance. As the messenger hawk took flight, a spear flew rapidly from below and impaled the hawk, killing it. Goo Hwi then appeared above the two men and inquired who they were.

Volume 2[]

The mysterious hooded men attacked Goo Hwi with a powerful technique but he withstood it completely unscathed. Goo Hwi angrily prepared to counter attack but unfortunately, the attack before had damaged the tree he was hanging from so the tree trunk crashed down on him. The mysterious men used this opportunity to escape. Goo Hwi then attempts to free himself from the tree trunk only to fall asleep due to his starvation.

Returning to the Black Snake stronghold on Mount Gwe-Heung, he and Yul Mugi find it empty with the exception of Cruel Moon Archdemon and his subordinates. In the ensuing confrontation, Goo Hwi was incapacitated and Yul Mugi got captured. Goo Hwi laid there dying among some rubble lamenting about his own death as the fires roared around him. Unable to move an inch due to Cruel Moon Archdemon's deadly technique, he finally remembered the Great Asura Regeneration Technique as one of the martial arts of the Asura Blood Sect and that Cruel Moon Archdemon was one of its members. Then Yongbi showed up, happily greeting him. Goo Hwi was so upset by Yongbi's appearance that he fainted.

Yongbi rescued Goo Hwi and brought him to the Gold Bug for medical treatment, intending to interrogate him on Yul Mugi's location when he recovered. In the Gold Bug's ship, the godly doctor, Gongson Seung, treated Goo Hwi with acupuncture, saving his life.

Volume 3[]

Yongbi resumed his travells with Goo Hwi in tow. Goo Hwi later regained consciousness but found himself unable to move his body below the neck. He looked over and saw Yongbi repel the martial artists that had attacked him. Thinking back, Goo Hwi finally remembered that Yongbi rescued him from the burning Black Snake's stronghold. Then Yongbi walked over and rest his staff against Goo Hwi's cheek while Goo Hwi stubbornly pretended to be asleep. As Yongbi wiped his sweat with a piece of cloth, Goo Hwi recognized it and jerks his head to get a better look. Having budged Yongbi's staff in the process, Goo Hwi panicked. Goo Hwi quickly goes back to pretending to be unconscious. He thought back to the past to try to confirm that the cloth Yongbi used was Sohee's underclothes. Eventually, Yongbi discovered that Goo Hwi is awake. That night, Goo Hwi angrily questioned him on how he obtained Sohee's underclothes and Yongbi gave him a vague answer. At that, Goo Hwi screamed with grief.

In the morning, Goo Hwi continued crying having been struck with grief. Yongbi, who hadn't been able to sleep all night because of Goo Hwi's howling, angrily yelled at Goo Hwi to stop behaving like a baby. Goo Hwi stopped for a moment but continued after thinking he had a scoundrel like Yongbi as his brother-in-law.

Volume 4[]

After entering the Cheonwoong Faction's Hweyang Villa, the guards greeted Yongbi as a hero and Sanggwan Chaek ordered Commander Namgung to inform the other faction members of Yongbi's arrival. As the guards left, they noticed an unconscious Goo Hwi lying on the cart. Overcome with rage, they all drew their weapons and prepared to kill Goo Hwi as revenge for their comrades he had slaughtered in the past. Sanggwan Chaek shouted at them to stop and scolded them for their impertinence, adding that since Yongbi captured Goo Hwi, it was up to him on how to deal with the latter.

Later, Yongbi collected the cask of wine in his quarters, he wondered why the good-willed members of the Cheonwoong Faction had such animosity towards Goo Hwi. It is revealed that Goo Hwi once massacred forty elite warriors of the faction but Goo Hwi claimed that it was in retaliation for them killing his men first. Yongbi then decided to check if Goo Hwi had gotten his sensations back after the latter threatened him, by tickling Goo Hwi's feet with a feather. After Goo Hwi showed no response, Yongbi left. With Yongbi gone, Goo Hwi revealed that he had regained feeling in his limbs and started restoring his inner ki with the Black Dragon Cosmic Technique.

Volume 5[]

Soon after, the Hweyang Villa guards entered the room Goo Hwi was in and prepared to kill him. However, Goo Hwi stopped their attack and slaughtered them all. He then left the room and saw the villa on fire. As Goo Hwi walked through the burning villa, he investigated the area, noting that there was a fierce battle that happened there. He stumbled onto a dead body and remembered him as one of Cruel Moon Archdemon's subordinates. Then, Jin Paechu and the other Great Elders, and Ga Mugwang and the other disciples arrived encountering Goo Hwi. They all excused Goo Hwi as the culprit for what happened at the villa and Goo Hwi happily challenged them thinking that this was all a ploy to justify killing him.

Goo Hwi released his ki and charges in while the Cheonwoong Faction members deploy their formations. As both sides were about to clash, the High Elder appeared and struck Goo Hwi in the chest with a palm strike. After being knocked back, Goo Hwi inquired the High Elder on why he withdrew his power despite having the opportunity to strike a fatal blow on him. The High Elder cleared Goo Hwi's name and allowed the latter to leave, announcing that Goo Hwi wasn't responsible for what happened.

In a forest, Goo Hwi was cooking a meal. An elderly lady stumbled onto him and after a brief misunderstanding, she revealed that a bandit chieftain was impersonating him and committing atrocities. Furious that some low-life was destroying his reputation, Goo Hwi decided to go deal with the chieftain.

Volume 6[]

After making his way to the bandit stronghold, he reunited with Sohee and the Black Snake there after a hilarious misunderstanding.

Later at a tavern, Big Head and his informant discussed the events surrounding the Golden Medallion. Upon hearing Yongbi's name, Goo Hwi and the Black Snake assassins confronted the two men. He forced Big Head to spill information on the events surrounding the Golden Castle. He ultimately decided to search for Yongbi to take revenge on him.

Travelling to a village elsewhere, Goo Hwi mistakenly came to the conclusion that Sohee was pregnant with Yongbi's child and in a fit of rage, destroyed Hwangbo Soong's gilded carriage, who was also in the village to hire the services of a tracker. Meanwhile, Big Head was trying to acquire information on Yongbi's location but the information trader refused to divulge it for free. Then Goo Hwi angrily smashed through the information trader's building and demanded to know Yongbi's location.

Volume 7[]

Goo Hwi and the rest of the Black Snake then entered and travelled though the Muhae Valley in pursuit of Yongbi. On their journey, Goo Hwi heard a sound, and wondered where it came from. Then one of the Black Snake broke off a piece of the cart and hurled it into the ground, impaling a man hiding underground. With their cover blown, the rest of the martial artists jumped out and attacked. Jang-Ryong effortlessly dealt with the ambush and as he goes to sit back down, Goo Hwi noticed that the man was bleeding. Goo Hwi punished him and scolded him for getting injured by some riffraff, adding that he would put the Black Snake through hellish training when they return to their stronghold.

Volume 8[]

As an earthquake ranged out across the valley, causing the ground to break up and rocks to fall around them, the Black Snake assassins hurriedly tried to get to safety.

Volume 9[]

A massive tree fell onto Goo Hwi, who proceeded to express his annoyance of the earthquake. Then with Sohee having fell ill, Goo Hwi ordered the Black Snake to take care of her while he left to find Yongbi, accompanied by only two of his men, Pung-Ho and Jang-Ryong.

Goo Hwi stumbled through the fog and eventually came across these martial artists who instantly attacked him. Goo Hwi effortlessly took them down.

Volume 10[]

When Hwangbo Soong was betrayed and about to be killed by Chomu and Lim Jin-Choong, the old man called out to someone in the distance for help. Goo Hwi instantly showed up behind the two mercenaries, surprising them, but after determining that the problem was due to internal strife, he left. After Hwangbo Soong desperately offered monetary compensation, Chomu was insulted that the Hwangbo Soong thought so little of him and prepared to kill the old man, boasting that even Goo Hwi (the impostor) ran away from him, not realizing that the real Goo Hwi was nearby. At that statement, Goo Hwi returned and gripped Chomu's head in retaliation. Chomu freed himself from Goo Hwi's clutches and tried to break Goo Hwi's arm. He easily shook off Chomu's attack and sent the latter crashing into a boulder nearby, heavily injuring him. Chomu get up and cried out in pain when he realized that his left wrist and hand were broken. Enraged, Chomu retaliated against Goo Hwi but was once again easily subdued. After Goo Hwi broke Chomu's arm, the latter finally noticed the signature Black Snake tattoo, and realized that this Goo Hwi was the real one. But it was too late to correct his mistake and Goo Hwi killed Chomu with a single slap. Meanwhile, his men dealt with Lim Jin-Choong.

Goo Hwi wondered what to do with Hwangbo Soong since he doesn't want to leave a defenseless old man in such a dangerous place, to which Hwangbo Soong responded that he has a strong bodyguard, the Thousand-Killing Ghost Archer. At the mention of Wang In being in the Muhae Valley, Goo Hwi scowled. Jang-Ryong and Pung-Ho revealed to Hwangbo Soong that Wang In was formerly the Black Snake assassination instructor and had left the organisation over five years ago. Goo Hwi wondered why Wang In was in the Muhae Valley since the latter promised to never return to the world of martial arts again.

Later, when Wang In was heavily injured in his fight with Yongbi, they arrived in time to assist the unconscious and wounded Wang In. The Black Snake assassins treated Wang In's wounds while Goo Hwi confronted Yongbi. In their ensuing clash, Yongbi showcased an incredible combination of attacks which Goo Hwi narrowly evaded, receiving only a small cut. Goo Hwi questioned Yongbi on how a mere bounty hunter knew the 'Lu Family's Spear Style', a secret martial arts technique of the Grand General's command. As they clashed, Goo Hwi questioned Yongbi further on his drastic personality change but received no answers since Yongbi was still unconscious (while his body moves on autopilot) and then Goo Hwi landed a powerful palm strike onto Yongbi's chest.

With the palm strike causing Yongbi to come back to reality, he attempted to leave but Goo Hwi prevented Yongbi from doing so. This heated exchange led to them trading blows and then both of them prepared to fight seriously.

Volume 11[]

As their fight raged on, Yongbi and Goo Hwi were both completely exhausted from the fight and they decided to end it. Goo Hwi generated an immense amount of ki, giving off heat so intense that Jang-Ryong could feel it from far away while Yongbi prepared to use a technique as well. Then Goo Hwi unleashed the Fire Demon’s Heaven Incinerating Earth Flame, the strongest kill-move of the Seven Step Black Wind Fist! Yongbi countered with his Nine Dragon Fangs technique and the impact of both techniques clashing created a massive explosion and shock wave. When the dust settled, Goo Hwi emerged from the rubble and screamed for Yongbi.

Later, Goo Hwi was going through some underground passages and stumbled upon Hyeon Jae-Yang and his companion. He and the old man expressed surprise at seeing the other in the Muhae Valley and then conversed with clear animosity towards each other. They then left but Goo Hwi joined up with them since he was heading in the same direction.

Volume 12[]

Upon turning a corner, they stumbled upon Cruel Moon Archdemon and his subordinates.

When Cruel Moon Archdemon wondered how Goo Hwi survived their earlier confrontation, Hyeon Jae-Yang used this opportunity to insult Goo Hwi with a joke, to which the Black Snake leader responded with a beat down. Goo Hwi then confronted Cruel Moon Archdemon and they both readied to fight.

Goo Hwi made the first move and tore Cruel Moon Archdemon apart. Cruel Moon Archdemon regenerated his body behind Goo Hwi and attempted a surprise attack but Goo Hwi countered it having learned not to let down his guard from their first clash. Then the Prelate created multiple clones of himself. As the bystanders watch, both of the combatants were revealed to be trapped in a hemispherical ward created by the Prelate. Hyeon Jae-Yang realized that Cruel Moon Archdemon was just buying time from the beginning to create the ward and recognized the technique as the Stygian Demonic Slaughtering Wall, the Asura Blood Sect's ultimate technique. Inside the ward, Goo Hwi happily welcomed the clones and then generated an immense amount of ki and heat. Then Cruel Moon Archdemon's cloned move in to attack and Goo Hwi unleashed his strongest technique which smashed through the ward.

The explosion from Goo Hwi's technique radiated outward annihilating everything in its path and the nearby observers braced for impact. When the dust settled, Cruel Moon Archdemon's clones gruesomely blow apart and were completely incinerated, leaving only the true Prelate standing. Hyeon Jae-Yang mentioned that Goo Hwi had completely smashed the Stygian Demonic Slaughtering Wall. When the Prelate himself died, Hyeon Jae-Yang approached Goo Hwi and praised him for his remarkable growth in strength. Goo Hwi responded by challenging the elderly man to a fight and then fainted.

Hyeon Jae-Yang then ordered the Young Lady to evacuate Goo Hwi while he goes deal with a different matter.

Volume 13[]

The Young Lady carried him near the Golden Castle and dropped him off there.

Volume 14[]

As he laid there sleeping, Biryong stumbled upon him. At first, Biryong was ecstatic upon reuniting with Goo Hwi but then remembered how he and his master had treated Goo Hwi. When Goo Hwi woke up, Biryong pummeled the former in attempt to take him out. Angered, Goo Hwi got up and decimated the environment around him and then wondered if the beating he received from a horse was a dream. Biryong played dead but eventually, Goo Hwi tricked the horse into revealing his deception. Recognizing Biryong, Goo Hwi was about to take revenge on the horse when someone in the distance caught his attention.

Seeing Sanggwan Chaek, Biryong urged Goo Hwi to go to the Golden Castle. As Goo Hwi crossed the bridge, he looked back and witnessed Biryong trying to severe the ropes to the suspension bridge. Goo Hwi angrily marched back and beat the fearful horse.

Volume 15[]

Chasing after Biryong, he encountered Ilgak, Hyeon Jae-Yang, and the Young Lady. They had a short conversation and Ilgak eventually convinced Goo Hwi to carry Hyeon Jae-Yang out much to the latter's chagrin. They found their way out of the volcano and rushed to get as far away as possible.

Goo Hwi then reunited with Sohee and the Black Snake. After a short conversation, Hyeon Jae-Yang urged them to leave the valley as soon as possible. Then the volcano erupted and everyone in the Muhae Valley hurried to escape.

With the recent incident passing, at the Black Snake's stronghold, Goo Hwi put his subordinates through grueling and hellish training. Elder Myeong then informed Goo Hwi that a guest had come to see him. Goo Hwi entered a building and found out that the guest was Yul Mugi! In their meeting, Yul Mugi proposed to create an information gathering group under the direct command of the Black Snakes since their information network was seriously inept. Upon hearing that Yul Mugi would create the best information group under the command of the Black Snake and in return they would provide an escort when Geumcheonbo transported goods over long distances, Goo Hwi asked the boy why he would consider a band of assassins suitable for that job. Yul Mugi responded that the Black Snake despite being assassins were honorable and never attacked merchants and common folk for private gain. Goo Hwi accepted the deal. Furthermore, Yul Mugi asked Goo Hwi for help in tracking Yongbi down as he wanted Yongbi to lead the new Geumcheonbo guard corps that would soon be created.

Some time later, Yul Mugi and Goo Hwi visited Lee Serin for information on Yongbi since he had a run in with him. Goo Hwi then questioned Lee Serin if the latter's bounty had increased (thinking that Lee Serin broken out of jail) in hopes of using Lee Serin as bait for Yongb. Lee Serin responded that the real murderer was caught and he was released from jail. In addition, Lee Serin revealed that he was visited two other times by people (Hong Ye-Mong and Elder Muk, and Ilgak) in search of information on Yongbi. As Goo Hwi and Yul Mugi left, the boy questioned the former if he and Yongbi were going to fight when they meet and Goo Hwi laughed and replied that he would try to hold back.

Between the events of Yongbi the Invincible and Gosu (The Master)...

Goo Hwi was involved in the Old Murim Alliance's war against the Asura Blood Sect. The war ended with a Pyrrhic victory for the Alliance and Goo Hwi eventually settled down in the Sage Forest. Shortly after this war, he, Yongbi and Hong Ye-Mong fought against and permanently injured Sa Paecheon,[10] which eventually lead to Sa Paecheon's consecutive defeats against those affiliated with the Heavenly Destruction Sect.

Gosu (The Master)[]

Stirring[]

Finding Gha Woobok severely injured on the side of the road, he found shelter from the rain inside a cave, where he helped Woobok recover. A short while later, a patrol from the Naeseonhyang came by, intending to capture Gha Woobok, and were instantly laid to waste.

Several days later, he was shown observing Gang Ryong from a distant mountain. He was impressed when Gang Ryong noticed his presence, and told a penitent Dang Gan, who is visibly terrified, that he could understand why he was beaten. After picking up the medicinal herbs he needed to treat his sick friend, Goo Hwi then left on his journey back, much to his granddaughter's sadness.

Season 2 Introduction[]

Having housed him briefly, Goo Hwi and the other senior members see Gang Ryong off as the young gosu left to head back to Yellow Dragon Mountain.

Revived Heavenly Destruction Sect[]

At their compound, Goo Hwi tended to his daughter before seeing Garyeong off. On his way back up, he discussed with Yongbi about his annoyance that people in the murim had poisoned his daughter, adding that he wouldn't get involved in the current murim's business unless it involved his granddaughter or the Baekma Valley. Later, Goo Hwi discussed the information he had received from Yul Mugi with Yongbi and mentioned that he was going to go confirm it with his own eyes.

After Gang Ryong killed Ze Wungang and Nameless, the Revived Heavenly Destruction Sect had the Pro-Heavenly Destruction Alliance go look for him. However, the Baekma Valley and the Murim Alliance remnants led by Doh Gyeom opposed them. Goo Hwi and Yongbi had Hong Ye-Mong intervene and prevent them from clashing and she successfully did so.

Meanwhile, on their way to the Revived Heavenly Destruction Sect's headquarters, Yongbi 'accidentally' arrived at the wrong mountain much to Goo Hwi's chagrin. However, with Goo Hwi begrudgingly handing over another gold calf, Yongbi suddenly "remembered" and set course for Sky Gorge Mountain! In a meeting with Hyeol Bi, they discussed the terms of the war, coming to a deal that the champions of the Revived Heavenly Destruction Sect and the remaining Murim Alliance would battle to determine the outcome of the war, with the Sage Forest as mediators. Hyeol Bi also proposed that Goo Hwi and Yongbi themselves participate in the battle and Goo Hwi readily accepted.

When they left, Ilgak came out from under the cart and revealed that after searching the Sky Gorge Mountain, he found nothing related to the Demonic Cult. Ilgak mused that Goo Hwi may have been wrong on his notion, but the latter replied that they may have just hid it very well. Yongbi then mused that they'd find out soon. Back at their base, they discussed the details of the upcoming battle. With their plans all in order, the participants said their goodbyes as they got ready to set off for battle.

Later at the battlefield, Goo Hwi got ready to do battle with Hyeol Bi (since their plan was to have Goo Hwi distract Hyeol Bi while Yongbi and Ilgak infiltrated their base) but due to the timely arrival of Gang Ryong, the young man went to fight in their place. After Gang Ryong killed Hyeol Bi, the latter came back to life through the use of Demonic Resurrection. Nearby, sensing the unique energy that was produced whenever someone came back from the dead, Yongbi pondered if they should go back. However, Ilgak revealed his presence and interjected, stating that they have no time to lose. He also dismissed the presence of the unique energy as nothing to worry about as they encountered it many times when fighting against the Asura Blood Sect. Yongbi agreed but it didn't sit well with Goo Hwi. Ilgak then noted that breaking a barrier without getting caught wasn't easy, and that they could not delay any longer or their enemy would notice. As the trio travelled elsewhere, Goo Hwi stopped and suggested that they go back to Hyeol Bi since he was troubled by what they sensed earlier. Ilgak angrily disagreed, fearing that they'll be found out if they left through the barrier again. After discussing amongst themselves, they decided to continue on.

Yongbi then accidentally knocked over a barrier stone, alerting Hwan Sa to their presence and triggering a trap. Enormous rocks rain down on them and the elderly trio rushes to escape it. After clearing the trap, the trio was greeted by the Grand Prelate of the now defunct Asura Blood Sect, Okcheonbi, who was thought to be long dead (this later turned out to be just a clone). Okcheonbi confronted the three elders and Yongbi took the initiative, striking first with a powerful attack. However, the Grand Prelate deflected the attack, hitting Ilgak who managed to block it but got sent flying back. Yongbi goes to check up on the monk and they started arguing. As Okcheonbi spoke to the Heaven Ravager King, Yongbi got up to do battle but Ilgak stopped him, telling him to keep his promise of letting the monk leave safely but Yongbi brushed Ilgak off resulting in them quarreling. With his comrades fooling around, Goo Hwi took on Okcheonbi.

Goo Hwi won the fight and was standing over Okcheonbi who laid against a wall. The wall then crumbled exposing a room and inside sat another Okcheonbi but this one's was body; decaying, desiccated, and chained to a chair. After speaking with this Okcheonbi (another clone), the trio left. Goo Hwi and Yongbi paused for a moment after this Okcheonbi's death resulting in Ilgak screaming at them to leave now or he would go without them. Then traversing through the tunnel, Yongbi questioned the monk if he was going the right way causing the irritated Ilgak to lash out at him. At that, a tremor rang out across the cave.

The elderly trio eventually reached a dead-end and Yongbi chastised Ilgak for leading them there, claiming their way in was a flat path while they had been climbing on their way out. He then further raged at the monk for ignoring him the entire way when he continuously asked if they were going the right way. Unperturbed, Ilgak commented that they should rest and retrace their steps. Ilgak rebuked that because he had trained in the Sage Techniques, at least he could see faintly in the pitch dark cave and then suddenly, the cave started rumbling, cutting off their path with debris. As Ilgak desperately tried to dig his way out, Yongbi prepared to break out.

Goo Hwi then smashed through a wall as well and ran into Gang Ryong. The young man stepped out of the shadows and Goo Hwi acknowledged him. After Gang recognized the old man as Jin Garyeong's grandfather, the Heaven Ravager King mentioneds that he just happened to stumble into the place and questioned how Gang got there. Gang reply that he stumbled into the place as well to which Goo Hwi noted they were in a strange place. Then Hwan Sa used the Illusion Technique, Divided Soul: Arcane Relay on Gang, show the young man false memories that Goo Hwi and Yongbi was responsible for what happened to his master. Goo Hwi and Gang Ryong then clashed but during the battle, Goo Hwi snuck away.

Goo Hwi then smashed through a wall and greeted a man hiding inside a monstrous-looking tree: Okcheonbi, the Asura Demon Lord. Goo Hwi had a conversation with the real Okcheonbi and then they fought. Okcheonbi was eventually defeated due to the combined efforts of Yongbi, Goo Hwi, and Gang Ryong with the young man finishing him off once and for all by consuming him with the Dan. However, Goo Hwi was also severely injured in the fight due to the continued usage of martial arts despite his damaged pressure points. Blood spurted out of Goo Hwi's body and he collapsed. Yongbi rushed over to his old friend, commenting about how he knew Goo Hwi would do that one day and urged him to wake up. Then Hong Ye-Mong arrived with the rest of the party in tow, and Jin Garyeong rushed over to Goo Hwi, telling him to wake up as well. Ilgak checked up on Goo Hwi and told Jin Garyeong not to worry about her grandfather since his injuries were severe but not life threatening.

With the recent incident passing, back at their base, Yongbi conversed with a recovering Goo Hwi and assured his comrade that they found no trace of Okcehonbi even after searching for days. Goo Hwi then questioned if the Okcheonbi they saw there was even the person they knew, revealing that it felt more like Okcheonbi's regret than himself. He then theorized that Okcheonbi died from their fight long ago and the thing they fought was only the raw regret in the form of the Asura Demon Lord. Yongbi immediately shot down Goo Hwi's theory and mentioned that his comrade was grossing him out, questioning if he developed feelings after almost coming back from the dead. He then noted that it doesn't matter anymore since their fight was now over before concluding that it felt more like the old times when Okcheonbi was playing puppet games with them. Goo Hwi then inquired on the whereabouts of the Dan to which Yongbi said it was in the hands of the person who can destroy it in the most ideal matter. At that, Goo Hwi hilariously accused Yongbi of planning on selling it causing the latter to lash out at him.

Goo Hwi surpassed the limits of his previous strength shown in Yongbi the Invincible, the immense power he showed gained the praise of Okcheonbi the leader of the Asura Blood Sect.[11] In the past, he was feared as one of the Twelve Supreme Masters, being one of the Four Heavenly Kings of the chaotic murim, which speaks volumes about his strength.[1] According to Gang Ryong, at some point in time, Goo Hwi was recognized as the strongest warrior by all of the murim. [12]

During the days of the old murim, Goo Hwi was an extremely powerful combatant, being blessed with the perfect body for martial arts,[13] and having mastered the legendary Seven Step Black Wind Fist. Goo Hwi was also considered one of the top ten strongest men in the Middle Kingdom (he personally considers top three).[4] Even Hyeon Jae-Yang, the Divine Lord of Destruction, mentioned Goo Hwi as the strongest person he had ever faced.[14] At a young age, he was already revered as the strongest warrior of the chaotic factions not because of his martial arts at the time but because of his enormous potential.[15] By the time for the search for the Golden Castle, Goo Hwi had retained the title of the most powerful warrior of the chaotic factions.[16]

Immense Inner Ki: Goo Hwi has obtained an incredible amount of inner ki since his younger days, greatly boosting his power.[3] He is also capable of putting up reflective ki barriers to block and disperse the damage he would incur from powerful attacks.[17][18]

Immense Durability & Endurance: He has an extraordinary constitution,[19] showing numerous feats of durability and endurance. Goo Hwi's muscles are described to be like steel, unlikely to break no matter how his opponents strike them.[17] He is also able to take powerful blows and keep on fighting as seen in his duel against Yongbi.[18] His durability is further proven when Goo Hwi manages to walk off after receiving grievous wounds from the High Elder of the Cheonwoong Faction and Cruel Moon Archdemon.[2][19]

Immense Physical Strength: Goo Hwi boasts incredible physical strength, being able to easily level enormous objects and heavily scar the earth with his strikes.[17][18] Goo Hwi is also able to crush a person's head with his bare hands.[20] Another testament to his strength is that he was able to effortlessly shake off Chomu's grip, which can crush rocks with ease.[21] Even if an opponent deflects his attacks, they are still powerful enough to rattle their bones.[17]

Immense Physical Speed: Despite his bulky frame, Goo Hwi has surprisingly impressive agility.[17] He is extremely quick when attacking, being able to close small distances instantly and tear his opponents apart in a split second.[22]
